The SCCFS counselling program provides group counselling to children, teens and families affected by complex trauma. CSCS Advisory Groups deal with mental health and well-being using Aboriginal healing and assistance modalities and include the regular involvement of traditional caregivers and local community elders. Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks (FBCYICN) – A provincial, youth-focused non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of youth aged 14 to 24. All children and adolescents who are in permanent custody and who are not Aboriginal peoples and Aboriginal children and adolescents in the care/continuation of care are eligible. Transition – The time when a young person moves from taking over the state to an independent life. Children and young people in childcare and youth through a youth agreement. Children and youth in care refer to children and youth in the custody of the Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) as well as to children and youth in delegated Aboriginal agencies. State Assistance – Means anyone who has lived in nursing homes, group homes, child and adolescent psychiatrists, addiction centres, child care centres or independent housing. If you were in one of these places, you might have had one of these statuses: youth contracts, extended family placements, 54.1, continued custody, temporary custody order, voluntary custody order, juvenile protection home: short-term emergency accommodation that provides a safe place for young people living homelessness or family collapses. Young people can usually stay between 1 and 30 days.
Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) – The BC Ministry, which is responsible for the guardianship of children and adolescents in the care and assistance of adolescents on YAG, AYA and independent living. Children and adolescents have access to necessary dental and orthodontic care until the age of 19. Youth members with a youth agreement only have access to dental care until the age of 19. Aging – this is what happens when a teenager under state guardianship reaches the age of 19 and is no longer under the tutelage of the Ministry of Child and Family Development. A youth agreement is a legal agreement between you and the Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) in case of extreme distress.
